El Pacu was born from the need for the ultimate wine-food match; a textural white with the vegetarian piranha of Peru. Teeth like humans, and ribs like pork, the fig-loving El Pacu of the Amazonian head waters is a treat to catch and a treat to eat.
The original incarnation of our El Pacu wine was a skinsy Chardonnay from New England in 2017. Then in 2021 we upped the ante with some premo Chardy and Pinot Noir from up on the Whitlands plateau, a touch of Riesling from the Mt Bellvue ridge (also Whitlands), Arneis from the banks of the Boggy Creek, and a dabble of Sav B from the Grampians. Was this the pinnacle that this wine can be? Well believe it or not, like an Elton John farewell tour, we cannot be stopped! El Pacu is back in 2023, this time as a combination of the two previous incarnations, skinsy yet silky and fruity! What!
This time we have a tight and bright blend of composing Pinot Gris and Chardonnay from the Eminence Vineyard and a splash of Arneis and Riesling.
Aromas of lemon curd, pepper and apple dance a delicate dance alongside a palate of caramel, stewed apricots, whey, and white pepper. Best enjoyed with El Pacu asado.
